According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2008/09 marketing year, through April 9, 2009, were 25.713 million metric tons (MMT), 23 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 33.492 MMT.

Sales for the period of April 3 to April 9, 2009 of 121,500 metric tons were down 36 percent from the previous week and 49 percent below the prior 4-week average. Increases reported for Iran (60,000 white), Peru (32,500 HRW), Nigeria (25,434 HRW, 5 SRW), Italy (17,641 durum), Ecuador (17,000 HRW), Venezuela (12,000 SRW) and Honduras (5,531 HRW, 2,952 HRS, 3,500 SRW) were partially offset by decreases for Guatemala (-23,000 HRW, -9,000 HRS, -2,412 SRW, -9,500 white), Mexico (-25,029 HRW, 550 SRW) and the Philippines (-1,011 HRS, -6,500 white). Net sales of 189,000 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were reported for unknown destinations (44,000 HRW, 18,000 HRS, 12,000 SRW, 22,000 white, 30,000 durum) and Guatemala (23,000 HRW, 12,000 HRS, 10,000 white).

USDA forecasts 2008/09 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.670 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 97 percent of total projected exports, down from the 5-year average of 101 percent of exports committed by this date.
