According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2017/18 marketing year, through December 14, 2017 were 18.9 million metric tons (MMT), 7 percent behind last year's year-to-date total of 20.2 MMT and 2 percent behind the 5-year average.

Net sales of 796,300 metric tons (MT) were reported for delivery in marketing year 2017/18, up significantly from the previous week and the prior 4-week average. Sales were well above trade expectations of 300,000 to 600,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Japan (72,028 HRW, 31,536 HRS, 27,386 white, 1,100 durum), Indonesia (29,233 HRW, 86,660 white), Algeria (120,000 HRW), Guatemala (27,571 HRW, 15,128 HRS, 11,971 white, 2,321 durum), and Nigeria (18,000 HRW, 30,000 SRW).

USDA forecasts 2017/18 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 71 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average.
