According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2015/16 marketing year, through May 26, 2016 were 20.7 million metric tons (MMT), 11 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 23.3 MMT.

Net sales of 107,400 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2015/16 were up noticeably from the previous week, but down 33 percent from the prior 4-week average. Sales were within trade expectations. Increases were primarily for Yemen (52,250 white), Japan (12,990 HRW, 994 HRS, 19,670 white), Costa Rica (3,800 HRW, 8,939 HRS), Italy (12,270 HRS, 73 durum), the United Kingdom (9,684 HRS), and Haiti (9,000 HRW).

Net sales of 385,000 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were reported primarily for Nigeria (42,000 HRW, 24,000 SRW), Mexico (39,191 HRW, 2,449 HRS, 18,000 SRW), Brazil (55,000 HRW), and the Philippines (25,000 HRS, 16,000 white). Sales for the new 2016/17 marketing year totaled 4.24 MMT, 12 percent higher than last year’s year-to-date total of 3.79 MMT.

USDA forecasts 2015/16 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 21.2 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 98 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 104 percent.
