According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2013/14 marketing year, through August 8, 2013 were 14.1 million metric tons (MMT), 41 percent greater than last year's year-to-date total of 9.98 MMT.
Net sales of 490,100 MT for delivery in the 2013/2014 marketing year were down 33 percent from the previous week and 34 percent from the prior 4-week average, and below trade expectations of 550,000 to 750,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Brazil (10,000 SRW), Sri Lanka (56,031 white), Nigeria (63,100 HRW), China (60,879 SRW), Japan (59,636 white), and Yemen (50,000 white).
USDA forecasts 2013/14 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 29.9 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 47 percent of total projected exports, up from the five-year average of 39 percent of exports committed by this date.
