According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through November 17, 2016 were 18.4 million metric tons (MMT), 30 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 14.1 MMT.

Net sales of 712,500 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 19 percent from the previous week, and 27 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. Sales were well above trade expectations of 350,000 to 550,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Japan (62,561 HRW, 31,310 HRS, 42,191 white), China (60,000 HRS), Peru (45,000 HRW, 8,000 SRW), and Egypt (45,000 HRS).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 70 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 68 percent.
