According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through December 15, 2016 were 19.9 million metric tons (MMT), 32 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 15.0 MMT and 7 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 531,300 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 6 percent from the previous week, but 7 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were above trade expectations of 300,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Nigeria (45,273 HRW, 48,000 SRW, 233 white, 2,750 durum), Morocco (60,500 HRW), China (60,000 HRS), Thailand (8,800 HRW, 29,846 HRS, 16,300 white), and Mexico (24,828 HRW, 18,544 SRW).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 76 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 73 percent.
