According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through January 19, 2017 were 22.4 million metric tons (MMT), 34 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 16.7 MMT and 10 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 853,400 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 --a marketing-year high--were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average. Sales were significantly higher than trade expectations of 200,000 to 400,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Unknown Destinations (-51,495 HRW, 128,701 HRS, 6,200 SRW, 128,860 white), Morocco (210,000 HRW), Indonesia (60,000 HRW, 80,000 white), Mexico (55,863 HRW, 250 HRS, 28,264 SRW), and China (60,000 white).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 85 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 83 percent.
