According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through March 2, 2017 were 25.1 million metric tons (MMT), 37 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 18.3 MMT and 8 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 391,600 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 21 percent from the previous week but 14 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were within trade expectations of 300,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Japan (11,230 HRW, 25,070 HRS, 20,092 white), Bangladesh (55,000 HRS), Yemen (50,000 white), Mexico (18,971 HRW, -129 HRS, 22,199 SRW), and the Philippines (26,200 HRS, 10,491 white).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 27.9 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 91 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 93 percent.
