According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through December 22, 2016 were 20.8 million metric tons (MMT), 32 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 15.7 MMT and 7 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 568,100 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 91 percent from the previous week, and 25 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. Sales were above trade expectations of 200,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for China (52,600 HRW, 67,900 HRS, -244 SRW, 50,000 white), Mexico (92,674 HRW, 25,590 SRW), South Korea (14,450 HRW, 25,000 HRS, -22 SRW, 43,100 white), Japan (35,467 HRW, 21,489 white), and Peru (48,000 HRW).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 79 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 77 percent.
