According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through March 30, 2017 were 26.8 million metric tons (MMT), 40 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 19.2 MMT and 9 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 568,400 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 23 percent from the previous week and 48 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. Sales were significantly above trade expectations of 250,000 to 450,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Taiwan (28,550 HRW, 54,250 HRS, 15,400 white), Algeria (52,295 HRW, 40,000 durum), South Korea (65,000 white), Mexico (53,172 HRW, 540 HRS, 2,162 SRW), Japan (-1,332 HRW, 48,170 HRS, -703 white), and Unknown destinations (94,500 HRW, 7,889 HRS, 12,000 SRW, 22,000 white, -2,000 durum).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 27.9 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 97 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 99 percent.
