According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through December 22, 2016 were 20.2 million metric tons (MMT), 31 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 15.4 MMT and 6 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 297,800 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were down 44 percent from the previous week, and 47 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were below trade expectations of 300,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Nigeria (97,000 HRW, 4,650 durum), Mozambique (42,000 HRW), Indonesia (40,000 HRW, 2,000 white), Japan (1,094 HRW, 35,044 HRS, 390 white, 5,192 durum), and Mexico (2,024 HRW, 7,000 HRS, 22,303 SRW).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 77 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 75 percent.
