According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through October 13, 2016 were 15.4 million metric tons (MMT), 26 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 12.2 MMT.

Net sales of 513,800 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 5 percent from the previous week, and 3 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. Sales were within trade expectations of 350,000 to 550,000 MT. Increases were primarily for the Mexico (1,668 HRW, 34,864 HRS, 62,372 SRW), Japan (14,739 HRW, 26,441 HRS, 34,229 white, 5,000 durum), South Korea (17,900 HRW, 24,950 HRS, 37,150 white), Algeria (61,658 HRW), the Philippines (30,000 HRS, 21,000 white), and Taiwan (11,603 HRW, 24,413 HRS, 13,178 white).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 59 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 60 percent.
