According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through January 26, 2017 were 22.9 million metric tons (MMT), 36 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 16.8 MMT and 9 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 451,200 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were down 47 percent from the previous week but up 8 percent from the prior 4-week average. Sales were above trade expectations of 250,000 to 450,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Unknown Destinations (49,605 HRW, 71,225 HRS, -654 SRW, 69,520 white), Mexico (54,742 HRW, 19,726 HRS, 3,500 SRW), the Philippines (32,000 HRS, 18,000 white), Taiwan (14,022 HRW, 29,482 HRS, 411 white), and Morocco (30,000 HRW).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 87 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 84 percent.
