According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through December 1, 2016 were 19.4 million metric tons (MMT), 32 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 14.7 MMT.

Net sales of 503,100 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 4 percent from the previous week, but 22 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were above trade expectations of 300,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Taiwan (41,982 HRW, 75,118 HRS, 8,222 white), Japan (19,737 HRW, 62,039 HRS, 21,638 white), China (10,487 HRW, -16 SRW, 47,250 white), Mexico (35,266 HRW, 28,798 HRS, -6,425 SRW), and Nigeria (36,137 SRW, 3,022 durum).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 74 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 71 percent.
