According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2017/18 marketing year, through August 17, 2017 were 11.5 million metric tons (MMT), slightly behind last year's year-to-date total of 11.6 MMT but 2 percent behind the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 386,400 metric tons (MT) were reported for delivery in marketing year 2017/18, down 39 percent from the previous week and 11 percent below the prior 4-week average. Sales were within trade expectations of 300,000 to 600,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Taiwan (32,961 HRW, 55,700 HRS, 500 SRW, 10,200 white), the Philippines (9,000 HRW, 38,757 HRS, 22,600 white), Thailand (10,300 HRW, 29,300 HRS, 18,199 white), China (1,000 HRW, 50,000 HRS, 3,692 white), and Japan (16,310 HRW, 19,925 white).

USDA forecasts 2017/18 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 44 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 46 percent.
