According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2008/09 marketing year, through March 26, 2009, were 25.402 million metric tons (MMT), 23 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 32.908 MMT.

Sales for the period of March 20 to March 26, 2009 283,500 metric tons were up 7 percent from the previous week and 1 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases reported for Taiwan (27,120 HRW, 56,500 HRS, 9,500 white), Thailand (12,980 HRW, 14,740 HRS, 22,880 white), Japan (16,765 HRS, 4,673 SRW, 12,360 white), Philippines (15,000 HRS, 10,664 white), Unknown (-15,000 SRW, 35,500 white), Portugal (12,000 HRS, 5,000 durum) and Peru (16,305 SRW), were partially offset by decreases for Algeria (-16,000 durum), Italy (-12,000 HRS), Panama (-5,065 SRW). Net sales of 100,400 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were reported for South Korea (24,000 HRW, 3,800 HRS, 300 SRW, 15,800 white), Algeria (16,000 durum) and Italy (15,000 durum).

USDA forecasts 2008/09 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.670 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 96 percent of total projected exports, down from the 5-year average of 99 percent of exports committed by this date.
