According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through September 8, 2016 were 12.9 million metric tons (MMT), 20 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 10.7 MMT.

Net sales of 402,200 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were down 39 percent from the previous week, and 11 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were within trade expectations of 350,000 to 550,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Japan (33,380 HRS, 57,850 white), the Philippines (7,450 HRW, 37,168 HRS, 23,832 white), Sri Lanka (10,028 HRS, 54,778 white), Algeria (55,000 HRW), Taiwan (18,039 HRW, 21,706 HRS, 13,955 white), and Ecuador (21,450 HRW, 15,932 SRW).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 25.9 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 50 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 51 percent.
