According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2008/09 marketing year, through December 11, 2008, were 20.120 million metric tons (MMT), 27 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 28.852 MMT.

Sales for the period of December 5 to December 11, 2008 were 262,100 metric tons, up 10 percent from the previous week, but down 25 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases reported for Mexico (81,128 HRW, 25,000 HRS, 12,570 SRW), Spain (40,919 HRS), Colombia (38,500 HRW), Japan (8,240 HRW, 1,161 HRS, 12,360 white), Philippines (750 HRS, 19,819 white), Costa Rica (6,691 HRW, -71 HRS, 8,858 SRW, 2,575 durum) were unknown (-35,500 HRW, -1,250 HRS, 21,250 SRW), Nigeria (-10,000 HRW), Venezuela (300 HRW, -5,598 HRS), Guatemala (-3,700 SRW).

USDA forecasts 2008/09 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 27.22 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 78 percent of total projected exports, above the 5-year average 78 percent of exports committed by this date.
