According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through February 23, 2017 were 24.7 million metric tons (MMT), 37 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 18.0 MMT and 9 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 353,200 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were down 22 percent from the previous week and 28 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were within trade expectations of 300,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Mexico (72,360 HRW, -10,916 HRS, 3,039 SRW), the Philippines (41,590 HRS, 16,500 white), Japan (26,617 HRW, 6,000 HRS, 9,409 SRW, 13,979 white), Algeria (50,000 HRW), and Guatemala (12,350 HRW, 7,470 HRS, 6,750 white, 2,400 durum).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 27.9 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 90 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 92 percent.
