According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through March 16, 2017 were 25.8 million metric tons (MMT), 36 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 18.9 MMT and 7 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 418,500 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 58 percent from the previous week and 17 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. Sales were within trade expectations of 250,000 to 450,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Japan (16,278 HRW, 94,701 HRS, 8,374 white, 3,000 durum), Algeria (120,000 HRW), China (52,500 HRW, 3,000 HRS, 10,500 white), and Saudi Arabia (60,000 HRW).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 27.9 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 93 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 97 percent.
