According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through April 6, 2017 were 27.2 million metric tons (MMT), 41 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 19.3 MMT and 10 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 421,600 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were down 26 percent from the previous week and 2 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were within trade expectations of 250,000 to 450,000 MT. Increases were primarily for China (62,875 HRS, 50,000 white), Nigeria (70,000 HRW, 22,000 HRS, 7,000 SRW), Japan (49,013 HRW, 14,909 white), Sudan (55,000 HRW), Chile (19,500 HRW, 12,000 SRW), and Yemen (31,000 white).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 27.9 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 99 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 100 percent.
