According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through June 2, 2016 were 5.76 million metric tons (MMT), 22 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 4.73 MMT.

Net sales for the 2016/17 marketing year, which began June 1, totaled 223,800 metric tons (MT). A total of 1.30 MMT in sales were carried over from the 2015/16 marketing year, which ended May 31. Sales were below trade expectations of 300,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Mexico (34,000 HRW, 2,450 HRS, 41,013 SRW), South Africa (47,950 HRW), Chile (20,000 HRW, 10,000 white), and Brazil (26,200 HRW).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 23.8 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 27 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 25 percent.
