According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through October 20, 2016 were 16.1 million metric tons (MMT), 26 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 12.7 MMT.

Net sales of 646,100 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 26 percent from the previous week, and 32 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. Sales were above trade expectations of 350,000 to 550,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Taiwan (23,530 HRW, 47,850 HRS, 9,345 white), Japan (26,270 HRW, 28,360 HRS, 20,565 white), Thailand (11,300 HRW, 26,000 HRS, 18,700 white), Colombia (51,950 HRW, 3,208 SRW), the Philippines (45,000 white), and Guatemala (16,003 HRW, 9,000 HRS, 6,303 white).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 61 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 62 percent.
