According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through January, 5 2017 were 21.3 million metric tons (MMT), 33 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 16.1 MMT and 9 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 391,000 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up noticeably from the previous week, but 1 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were below trade expectations of 250,000 to 450,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Unknown destinations (130,000 HRW, 120,510 HRS, 12,400 SRW, 30,000 white), Mexico (47,286 HRW, 12,605 HRS, 6,174 SRW), Nigeria (10,900 white), Colombia (9,000 HRW), and Peru (6,000 HRW).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 81 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 79 percent.
