According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through February 2, 2017 were 23.4 million metric tons (MMT), 37 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 17.0 MMT and 10 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 527,300 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 17 percent from the previous week and 9 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. Sales were above trade expectations of 300,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Japan (46,080 HRW, 29,945 HRS, 14,530 white), Mexico (49,505 HRW, 13,187 HRS, 4,568 SRW), the Philippines (49,584 HRS, 15,043 white), Chile (30,000 HRW, 30,000 white), and Morocco (60,000 HRW).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 89 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 86 percent.
