According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through December 29, 2016 were 20.9 million metric tons (MMT), 33 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 15.8 MMT and 7 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 183,700 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were down 68 percent from the previous week, and 61 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were below trade expectations of 200,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for the Philippines (65,066 HRS, 33,140 white), Taiwan (15,904 HRW, 22,943 HRS, 17,903 white), Mexico (-1,311 HRW, 7,569 HRS, 42,510 SRW), Italy (5,651 HRS, 32,926 durum), and Japan (2,200 HRW, 784 HRS, 35,142 white).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 80 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 78 percent.
