According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through February 16, 2017 were 24.4 million metric tons (MMT), 38 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 17.7 MMT and 10 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 451,300 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were down 14 percent from the previous week and 23 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were within trade expectations of 350,000 to 550,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Japan (28,021 HRW, 70,796 HRS), Algeria (52,100 HRW, 30,493 durum), Mexico (57,473 HRW, 12,061 SRW), Sri Lanka (33,000 HRS, 31,500 white), and the Philippines (300 HRW, 29,600 HRS, 26,881 white).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 27.9 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 88 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 90 percent.
