According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through September 15, 2016 were 13.5 million metric tons (MMT), 22 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 11.0 MMT.

Net sales of 561,000 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 40 percent from the previous week, and 30 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. Sales were above trade expectations of 300,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Mexico (87,331 HRW, 11,158 HRS, 14,656 SRW, 12,957 white), Peru (74,790 HRW, 25,040 SRW), Brazil (81,919 HRW), Indonesia (58,000 HRW, 22,000 white), Japan (35,442 HRW, 28,620 HRS), and China (57,750 HRS).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 25.9 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 52 percent of total projected exports, slightly behind the 5-year average of 53 percent.
