According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through June 30, 2016 were 8.46 million metric tons (MMT), 37 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 6.19 MMT.

Net sales of 825,300 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17, were well above trade expectations of 400,000 to 600,000 MT. Increases were primarily for the Philippines (7,000 HRW, 65,999 HRS, 14,400 white), Japan (21,840 HRW, 33,354 HRS, 11,108 white), Peru (57,729 HRW, -498 SRW), Thailand (3,057 HRW, 30,717 HRS, 18,400 white), Malaysia (7,000 HRW, 24,000 HRS, 6,500 white), and Taiwan (22,998 HRS, 14,398 white).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 24.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 35 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 31 percent.
