According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2008/09 marketing year, through April 16, 2009, were 25.945 million metric tons (MMT), 23 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 33.650 MMT.

Sales for the period of April 10 to April 16, 2009 of 232,200 metric tons were up 91 percent from the previous week and 8 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases reported for Nigeria (90,000 HRW), Japan (16,078 HRW, 27,319 HRS, 360 white), Canada (26,261 HRS, 520 white), Venezuela (19,000 HRW), unknown destinations (28,095 HRW, -25,000 HRS, 12,430 SRW), Dominican Republic (2,148 HRW, 4,816 HRS, 8,011 SRW) and United Arab Emirates (14,000 SRW) were partially offset by decreases for Peru (-6,000 SRW) Honduras (-1,500 HRW, -2,100 HRS) and Yemen (-800 white). Net sales of 199,300 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were reported for Taiwan (23,170 HRW, 50,790 HRS, 12,440 white), South Korea (21,600 HRW, 12,300 HRS, 32,900 white), Philippines (19,000 white) and Singapore (4,500 HRS, 12,000 white).

USDA forecasts 2008/09 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.670 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 98 percent of total projected exports, down from the 5-year average of 102 percent of exports committed by this date.
