According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through August 18, 2016 were 11.6 million metric tons (MMT), 18 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 9.79 MMT.

Net sales of 379,700 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were down 22 percent from the previous week, and 21 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were below trade expectations of 400,000 to 600,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Japan (41,290 HRW, 32,870 HRS, 202 white), Jamaica (32,000 HRS, 27,000 SRW), Taiwan (13,599 HRW, 34,933 HRS), Brazil (48,000 HRW), and the Philippines (12,983 HRS, 26,592 white).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 25.9 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 45 percent of total projected exports, behind the 5-year average of 46 percent.
