According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2008/09 marketing year, through February 19, 2009, were 23.992 million metric tons (MMT), 24 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 31.602 MMT.

Sales for the period of February 13 to February 19, 2009 were 465,400 metric tons were up 7 percent from the previous week and 56 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases reported for Taiwan (27,650 HRW, 52,200 HRS, 500 SRW, 11,450 white), Nigeria (86,000 HRW), unknown (36,497 HRW, 2,031 SRW, 23,000 white), Yemen (52,840 white), China (50,000 SRW), Mexico (23,734 HRW, 4,361 HRS, -10 SRW), Japan (3,774 HRW, 12,777 HRS, 8,670 white) and the Philippines (8,000 HRS, 12,000 white). Net sales of 112,500 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were mainly Jamaica (34,000 SRW), Philippines (26,000 HRS), Mexico (25,000 HRW) and Guatemala (5,000 HRW, 3,000 HRS, 2,500 SRW).

USDA forecasts 2008/09 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 27.22 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 89 percent of total projected exports, down from the 5-year average of 92 percent of exports committed by this date.
