According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through January 12, 2017 were 21.6 million metric tons (MMT), 31 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 16.4 MMT and 8 percent ahead of the 5-year average pace.

Net sales of 242,500 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were down 38 percent from the previous week, and 33 percent lower than the prior 4-week average. Sales were slightly below trade expectations of 250,000 to 450,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Mexico (18,951 HRW, 33,158 HRS, 14,331 SRW), Japan (14,140 HRW, 35,925 white), Nigeria (36,755 HRW, 9,945 HRS), Honduras (9,550 HRW, 12,100 HRS, 7,100 SRW), and Malaysia (26,000 HRS).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 26.5 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 82 percent of total projected exports, ahead of the 5-year average of 81 percent.
