According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2016/17 marketing year, through August 4, 2016 were 10.7 million metric tons (MMT), 20 percent higher than last year's year-to-date total of 8.94 MMT.

Net sales of 607,600 metric tons (MT) for delivery in marketing year 2016/17 were up 86 percent from the previous week, and 49 percent higher than the prior 4-week average. Sales were above trade expectations of 350,000 to 550,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Mexico (73,599 HRW, 11,050 HRS, 45,455 SRW), Indonesia (5,231 HRW, 22,000 HRS), Japan (35,054 HRW, 28,130 HRS), Guatemala (20,100 HRW, 10,800 HRS, 3,000 durum), and Chile (44,196 HRW).

USDA forecasts 2016/17 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 25.2 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 43 percent of total projected exports, and in line with the 5-year average.
