|HRW harvest in North Texas and far Southwest Oklahoma is well past 50% complete with very good test weights, averaging 82.6 kg/hl in early testing. Good yields have also been reported in most areas. Cool temperatures and timely moisture during grain formation were major contributing factors. However, wheat producers and handlers have been very disappointed in protein levels. Early testing indicates average protein at 11.5%, a direct result of optimum temperatures and moisture during later stages of plant development. Many delivery locations in north Texas and southwest Oklahoma are full of wheat, and with very little movement of grain to export locations, space is critical. Dockage is variable by location, but is currently averaging 0.7%.|
Harvest has progressed into central and northern Oklahoma and as far north as the Oklahoma/Kansas line with slowing due to rain showers and high humidity. The Texas Panhandle has yet to begin full scale harvest. Areas of Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska have been hard hit with leaf and stripe rust and final affects on test weight and yield are yet to be determined.
