|Harvest has essentially concluded for all HRW states except Montana and South Dakota. Central South Dakota reported 25-30 bushel yields with good protein and good test weights (60 lbs/bu or 78.9 kg/hl). Southeastern and western South Dakota reported very good yields generally in the 40 bushel per acre range with good protein. Harvest is 95% complete in the southern half of South Dakota.|
Montana is over 50% complete with the 2009 harvest still significantly behind the five-year average. Testing indicates test weights continue to average over 62 lb/bu (81.5 kg/hl), 12% protein, dockage at 0.3%, shrunken & broken at 0.8% and the moisture averaging just over 11.5%.
Weighted averages (based on production) are shown below for Gulf Tributary wheat. The crop as a whole has shown outstanding test weights and thousand kernel weights. While protein has been variable in some areas, the overall average still remains close to 12%. Dockage averaging just over 0.5% has also been a positive aspect of this harvest. The weighted average moves this crop to Grade #1.
