Harvest Report - July 23, 2010
HRW
Cool damp cloudy weather has again plagued harvesting of HRW in northeast Colorado and western Nebraska this week. Areas south of Nebraska are now done with the 2010 HRW harvest. Major areas remaining to be harvested are the Nebraska Panhandle, far northeast Colorado, South Dakota (now at 40% complete) and Montana.

Evaluation of five reporting areas (four in Texas and one in Oklahoma) for dough and bake data in contrast to the same five reporting areas last year indicate farinograph absorption (14% mb) is 58.4% this year compared to 57.8% last year, and development time is 5.3 minutes which is shorter than last year’s 6.4 minutes. Bake mix time is 4.8 minutes this year compared to 4.7 minutes last year, and bake absorption is 60.4% compared to 60.5% last year. Loaf volume averages 822cc this year compared to 863cc last year. Individual testing data can be viewed at www.plainsgrains.org.

At the time of posting, no new data for HRW is available.
