U.S. Wheat Associates Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Vice President to Retire
November 03, 2017
ARLINGTON, Virginia — Ed Wiese, Regional Vice President, Sub-Saharan Africa, with U.S. Wheat Associates (USW), will retire Dec. 31, 2017, after 29 years with the export market development organization. The regional office is in Cape Town, South Africa, where Assistant Regional Director Gerald Theus will serve as Interim Regional Director until a successor to Wiese is selected.

“Ed Wiese has had a very successful career with our organization and was instrumental in building U.S. wheat markets like Nigeria that continue to return so much today,” said USW President Vince Peterson. “We thank Ed for being a steadfast advocate for U.S. wheat farmers over many years and through many challenges in the region, and we wish him the best in his retirement.”

USW’s mission is to “develop, maintain, and expand international markets to enhance wheat’s profitability for U.S. wheat producers and its value for their customers.” USW activities in more than 100 countries are made possible through producer checkoff dollars managed by 17 state wheat commissions and cost-share funding provided by USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service.
