Commercial Sales - July 16, 2009


According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2009/10 marketing year, through July 9, 2009, were 5.372 million metric tons (MMT), 49 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 10.614 MMT.

Net sales of 422,500 metric tons were down 28 percent from the previous week, but were in trade estimates of 400,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were reported for Nigeria (243,500 HRW), Mexico (42,660 HRW, 873 HRS, 26,716 SRW), Brazil (25,000 HRW, 26,000 SRW), Peru (10,000 HRW), Honduras (2,994 HRW, 2,297 HRS, 4,006 SRW), Canada (8,500 SRW), and Haiti (8,090 HRW). Decreases were reported for Guatemala (8,000 MT) and unknown destinations (3,000 MT).

USDA forecasts 2009/10 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 25.17 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 21 percent below total projected exports, down from the 5-year average of 29 percent of exports committed by this date.
