Commercial Sales - March 9, 2006


According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2005/06 marketing year, through March 2, 2005, were 23.437 million metric tons (MMT), 4 percent behind last year's year-to-date total of 24.399 MMT.

Net sales of 327,800 metric tons (MT) were more than two times the previous week, 19 percent under the prior 4-week average and within trade estimates of 200,000 MT. Major increases were for Japan (41,100 MT HRW, 63,200 MT HRS and 35,200 MT white), Thailand (4,500 MT HRW, 15,500 MT HRS and 23,000 white), Guatemala (13,900 MT HRW, 15,500 MT HRS and 10,600 MT white), Mexico (24,800 MT HRW and 5,400 MT SRW), Chile (21,900 MT HRW), and Morocco (19,500 MT durum).

USDA pegs 2005/06 U.S. wheat exports at 27.22 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 87 percent of total projected exports, below the 5-year average of 92 percent of exports committed by this date.
