Commercial Sales - March 14, 2013
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2012/13 marketing year, through March 7, 2013 were 24.2 million metric tons (MMT), 2 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 24.7 MMT.
Net sales of 888,500 MT for the 2012/2013 marketing year were up 44 percent from the previous week and 52 percent from the prior 4-week average, and well above trade expectations of 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Egypt (74,900 HRW, 28,475 SRW), Haiti (92,899 HRW, 4,070 HRS), Japan (13,360 HRW, 26,351 HRS, 56,350 white, 540 durum), Nigeria (95,000 HRW), Taiwan (22,020 HRW, 61,360 HRS, 10,000 white), and Italy (88,997 SRW).
USDA forecasts 2012/13 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 27.9 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 87 percent of total projected exports, down from the five-year average of 96 percent of exports committed by this date.
