Commercial Sales - October 12, 2012


According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2012/13 marketing year, through October 4, 2012 were 13.4 million metric tons (MMT), 12 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 15.2 MMT.

Net sales of 279,900 MT for the 2012/2013 marketing year were down 9 percent from the previous week and 30 percent from the prior 4-week average, and below trade estimates of 350,000 to 550,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Japan (36,393 HRW, 28,140 HRS, 500 white), Taiwan (14,950 HRW, 35,600 HRS, 500 white), Nigeria (32,275 HRW), Mexico (22,579 HRW, -16 HRS, 20 SRW), Trinidad and Tobago (6,300 HRW, 7,700 HRS, 7,100 SRW), and Peru (16,185 SRW).

USDA forecasts 2012/13 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 31.3 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 43 percent of total projected exports, down from the five-year average of 62 percent of exports committed by this date.
