Commercial Sales - February 14, 2013
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2012/13 marketing year, through January 31, 2013 were 21.6 million metric tons (MMT), 5 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 22.8 MMT.
Net sales of 651,700 MT for the 2012/2013 marketing year were up noticeably from the previous week and up 54 percent from the prior 4-week average, and well above trade estimates of 275,000 to 600,000 MT. Increases were primarily for unknown destinations (30,000 HRW, 3,900 HRS, 133,000 SRW, -3,000 durum), Nigeria (60,896 HRW, 33,000 SRW), Peru (66,500 HRW, 7,921 SRW), Indonesia (55,000 HRS, 10,000 white), Japan (39,045 HRS, 21,333 white), and China (1,000 SRW, 55,000 white).
USDA forecasts 2012/13 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 28.6 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 76 percent of total projected exports, down from the five-year average of 89 percent of exports committed by this date.
