Commercial Sales - January 31, 2013
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2012/13 marketing year, through January 24, 2013 were 20.7 million metric tons (MMT), 4 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 21.7 MMT.
Net sales of 293,600 MT for the 2012/2013 marketing year were down 49 percent from the previous week and 32 percent from the prior 4-week average, and below trade estimates of 350,000 to 550,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Peru (49,741 HRW, 11,678 SRW), Japan (14,906 HRW, 28,434 HRS, 12,830 white), Nigeria (40,463 HRW, 12,592 durum), Turkey (30,000 SRW), and Mexico (30,130 HRW, 302 HRS, -811 SRW, -2,250 durum).
USDA forecasts 2012/13 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 28.6 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 73 percent of total projected exports, down from the five-year average of 86 percent of exports committed by this date.
