Commercial Sales - February 7, 2013
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2012/13 marketing year, through January 31, 2013 were 21.0 million metric tons (MMT), 6 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 21.7 MMT.
Net sales of 290,800 MT for the 2012/2013 marketing year were down 1 percent from the previous week and 29 percent from the prior 4-week average, and below trade estimates of 300,000 to 500,000 MT. Increases were primarily for Taiwan (19,150 HRW, 46,000 HRS, 13,520 white), Japan (12,729 HRW, 33,000 white), Mexico (93 HRW, 35,392 SRW), unknown destinations (28,500 HRW, -5,500 HRS, -17,000 SRW, 20,000 white), Egypt (10,000 HRW, 11,884 SRW, 2,750 white), and Chile (22,000 white).
USDA forecasts 2012/13 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 28.6 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 74 percent of total projected exports, down from the five-year average of 88 percent of exports committed by this date.
