Commercial Sales - January 4, 2013
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2012/13 marketing year, through December 27, 2012 were 19.1 million metric tons (MMT), 3 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 19.6 MMT.
Net sales of 400,400 MT for the 2012/2013 marketing year were down 60 percent from the previous week and 37 percent from the prior 4-week average, and within trade estimates of 350,000 to 550,000 MT. Increases were primarily for unknown destinations (75,000 HRW, 50,500 HRS, 30,000 SRW, -7,000 white), Taiwan (19,150 HRW, 46,850 HRS, 9,600 white), Turkey (60,000 SRW), South Korea (15,000 HRW, -1,400 HRS, 14,900 white), and Mexico (22,661 HRW, -2,050 HRS, 5,449 SRW, 10 durum).
USDA forecasts 2012/13 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 28.6 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 67 percent of total projected exports, down from the five-year average of 80 percent of exports committed by this date.
