Commercial Sales - March 7, 2013
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly Export Sales Report, total known outstanding sales and accumulated exports of all classes of wheat for the 2012/13 marketing year, through February 28, 2013 were 23.3 million metric tons (MMT), 4 percent lower than last year's year-to-date total of 24.4 MMT.
Net sales of 618,100 MT for the 2012/2013 marketing year were up 66 percent from the previous week and 23 percent from the prior 4-week average, and exceeded trade expectations of 350,000 to 550,000 MT. Increases were primarily for unknown destinations (57,000 HRW, 20,250 HRS, 83,500 SRW, -48,000 white, 15,600 durum), Egypt (-4,455 HRW, 65,995 SRW, 55,000 white), Nigeria (81,442 HRW, 2,931 SRW), Japan (23,451 HRS, 50,730 SRW), and Israel (42,414 HRW).
USDA forecasts 2012/13 U.S. wheat exports (including donations) to reach 28.6 MMT. Commitments to date (of wheat and wheat products) are 82 percent of total projected exports, down from the five-year average of 94 percent of exports committed by this date.
