USW makes sure European Union (EU) millers know when importing SRW is the best investment by informing them about quality, supply, cost and favorable trade policies. In 2011/12, the EU waived import duties on SRW due to tight local wheat supplies. Sales of SRW exceeded 565,000 MT, valued at nearly $160 million, a record going back to the mid-1990s. Spain imported most of that wheat with The Netherlands and Italy. To keep the momentum, USW brought Spanish and Italian flour millers to North Dakota, Minnesota and Ohio recently to learn about the new SRW and durum crops from farmers, grain traders and university experts.
