Harvest Report - August 24, 2007
Durum
The 2007 durum harvest is off to a good start. As of August 19, according to the North Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service office, harvest is 44% complete, behind 51% for last year but ahead of the five-year average of 27%. As of August 22, the average test weight was 60.1 lb/bu (78.3 kg/hl), higher than 59.9 lb/bu (78.0 kg/hl) for the 2006 crop. The average wheat protein content was 15.7%, higher than last year's 15.1%. The average dockage was 1.7% compared to 2.3% for last year. The falling number average was 421 seconds indicating the crop is sound thus far. Preliminary grading information is not yet available.
