The SRW harvest is still moving somewhat
slowly, although most areas are still expecting to harvest much earlier
than normal. Only a few additional samples were received this week
and the results did not affect the overall averages. Sampling should
begin in earnest this next week in Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois and North
Carolina and should be completed in Arkansas by the end of this week. Sixty-eight
percent of the crop has been harvested in Arkansas which is more than two
weeks ahead of the five-year average. North Carolina experienced
quite a bit of rain which has delayed combining. The southernmost
areas of Missouri have been harvested, but no data is available yet; 82%
of the crop has turned color in Illinois compared with the five-year average
of 11% at this date.
Data from early harvest in Southern
Arkansas is indicating protein average that is similar to last year
but a decrease in test weight of 1 lb/bu. Falling number value results
are comparable to 2011.
